Unlocking the Aliveness of your Soul with The SOMA Method - with Rachel from SOMA

Join Rachel, founder of somatic coaching school The SOMA Method, to explore what it truly means to be in connection with the innermost aliveness of our soul, and unlock the gift of creation from this vital force.

In all of our lives patterns, conditioning and masks come to keep us safe and sometimes these are deeply for our benefit but in other spaces and places they keep us small and in the shadows, we end up doing things that don’t really work for us instead of choosing things that make us feel more alive, empowered and in trust.

This workshop will be an exploration of choosing and expanding into your aliveness, by bringing gentle and powerful illumination to the spaces of us that are asking for more love, connection and expression.

Embodied Sound & Movement with Sally
Sep
29

Embodied Sound & Movement with Sally

Embodied Sound and Movement is a blend of voice, collective singing and movement, led by Kate Markham, a Natural Voice practitioner, and Sally Eccleston, a yoga teacher and somatic therapist.

Natural Voice (NVN) is a network of people who work with song and voice, believing that singing is everyone's birthright, regardless of musical experience or ability. Natural Voice is about celebrating the voice you were born with, rather than trying to train it to an ideal of perfection. It's about building non-judgmental, accepting communities that sing together. For our ancestors, chants and songs would accompany every kind of activity. Individuals and communities expressed emotions through their songs – joy and celebration, grief and despair. Songs fulfilled a myriad of purposes both practical and profound. Coming together as a community to reclaim this vital form of expression is a powerful way to loosen and release emotional blockages in the body. It can be particularly helpful for issues relating to communication, creativity and connection to others.

Soul Sounds will be followed by embodied yin yoga with Sally. In Yin Yoga we create gentle (sometimes more dynamic) long held postures and practices with an attitude of Maitri, loving kindness. The poses stimulate energy flow in meridians, energy channels, and restore, rewire and replenish our nervous system. While “yang” yoga focuses on your muscles, yin yoga targets your deep connective tissues, like your fascia, ligaments, joints, and bones. It’s slower and more meditative, giving you space to turn inward and tune into both your mind and the physical sensations of your body. Because you’re holding poses for a longer period of time than you would in other traditional types of yoga, yin yoga helps you stretch and lengthen those rarely-used tissues while also teaching you how to breathe through discomfort and sit with your thoughts. The practice of yin yoga is based on ancient Chinese philosophies and Taoist principles which believe there are pathways of Qi (energy) that run through our bodies. By stretching and deepening into poses, we’re opening up any blockages and releasing that energy to flow freely. During these Yang infused times, Yin, and the rebalancing of YinYang dynamics, help us to stop, reset and respond as we start again. Sally’s embodied approach to yin yoga invites us to explore our multidimensional capacities for healing by listening and sensing with the whole body-mind. It increases awareness of our mind-body connection in each dimension and through different somatic approaches, intuitive movement, classical nondual Tantra, Chinese medicine and Yin yoga, opens up space by helping to release limitations.

You can expect vocal toning and voice warm ups, shared songs using simple call and response chants and songs from around the world, shared chants, and a session to move through any emotional and energetic blockages in the body with sound and movement.

Fun Transitions with Kate

Yoga exists not only in the poses, but in the space between. And often these spaces contain the most magic.

In this workshop we will break down the fundamentals for balancing (arms and legs), before looking at creative ways to get from one place to the next.

Expect drills not only for strength, but for really understanding your own body and how it works in the shapes.

We will fall down (a lot), and study the why so we become less fearful - it is a fundamental part of the journey.

By the end of the workshop you will have a greater understanding of how to move between the crows, eka pada variations, forearm and headstand.

Even if you don’t lift off that day, you will have something to work on and a path to take you there - now that is the yoga!

Intro to Tarot: Part 3 - Reading & Spreads

Welcome to the wonderful world of tarot, a gateway to your intuition and really feeling in to life. Life is a rich a beautiful painting - tarot allows us to zoom out and see the bigger picture, or focus in on nuances that we may not see at first.

Through this series of workshops we will look at what elements create the tarot, the story it tells and how we can apply this to our lives. This is the intersection of self-enquiry, art appreciation and philosophy. Along the way we will work with the energies of different cards and their lessons. The aim is that by the end of this series you will be familiar with the deck and feel confident in reading for yourself.

1 - The Minor Arcana Here we look at the suit cards, the significance of the numbers, the archetypes and the elemental theory at play.

2 - The Major Arcana The Fool’s Journey. We will study the majors, their iconography, meaning and how it can apply to our own journeys, surmised in the Death card. The journey from that ends with The World, but how do we get here, and what challenges face us along the way?

3 - Readings & Spreads: Now that we have a familiarity with what happens within the pack, we can look at the pictures the cards paint. The richest of readings is The Celtic Cross, which we will dissect in this workshop.

Pincha Mayurasana aka Feather Peacock or Forearm Stand - I remember seeing my teacher do it when I first started practicing. It looked so effortless, so easy, so I tried it, and fell down really hard. And thus I proceeded to fall down a lot for many years, until stopped blindly trying to do the pose and using my inability as an excuse to critique myself, and actually learned the mechanics of HOW.

And this is what we'll cover together in the workshop. There will be the super important anatomy stuff:

- Harnessing flexibility

- Building strength

- Creating neural pathways of sensation from muscle to mind

And also, the lesser considered but in my opinion just as important philosophical stuff:

-The bravery to try

- The humility of falling

- The sassy power of getting back up

What we do on the mat, how we treat ourselves and develop a dialogue the most profound testing ground for life beyond the movement. Inversions can be scary, but the best stuff happens of the other side of discomfort You are so so welcome to come join no matter where you're at on your movement journey - 100% you do not need to be able to do pincha or headstand, but some experience of movement is required. And for those of you already we flying, we'll add funky pincha for an extra challenge.

Relieve Stress, Balance Energy, Improve Sleep

Yoga breathing is a safe and natural way to quickly affect your autonomic nervous system. Most of us are stuck on autopilot, and we’re getting bounced around by our environment leaving us feeling wired but tired, imbalanced, and frazzled. Yoga breathing offers many of the same benefits as meditation, but it’s easier to learn, can be practiced anywhere, and the results are very predictable.

Benefits of Yoga Breathing

• Relieve stress

• Reduce anxiety

• Improve mental focus

• Boost digestion

• Improve sleep

• Balance your energy

Here’s What You’ll Learn

• Water Breathing – to balance your nerves, and steady your mood any time

• Whiskey Breathing – to crush stress and anxiety, and to sleep better

• Coffee Breathing – to wake up, prepare for exercise, and naturally energize

Yoga breathing has been practiced for thousands of years, but this modern approach demystifies the practices and focuses on real-world science and results. No experience necessary, these practices are accessible to everyone.
